An employee of Walgreens on Hawthorne Avenue was bitten during a recent confrontation with a shoplifter.
According to police, the incident happened the evening of June 4th, when the 26-year-old employee saw a man with a history of stealing from the store conceal a box of laundry detergent in his duffel bag.
When the employee confronted him, the man pulled out a knife said, “What are you going to do about it?”
During a struggle for control of the duffel bag, the suspect bit the employee’s chest and then fled from the store.
The victim described the suspect as a tall black male who wore a black or gray hoodie, black Adidas pants and white sneakers.
Police believe that the thief stole more than just the detergent because video shows that when he entered the store the duffel bag appeared to be empty and it was was fully extended when the man was leaving.
The employee told police he planned to have the bite wound checked out at the hospital.
