Two teens were arrested early Monday after two witnesses saw them enter a car on Morningview Drive, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The witnesses were a man and woman who were watching a show on a phone inside the man’s car while it was parked outside his mother’s home on Morningview Drive at about 1:30 a.m., according to police.
When the man noticed two males walking down the street and then saw the interior light of his mother’s car turn on, he went over and confronted the males, who took off running, according to police.
After the suspects got into a vehicle and drove off, the witnesses followed and noted the vehicle’s tag number, which they gave to police.
An officer soon after spotted the vehicle at RaceTrac on Atlanta Highway and Epps Bridge Road, police said.
The witnesses arrived at RaceTrac where police said they positively identified 19-year-old Marquise Jaquavis Smith of History Trail in Winterville as one of the suspects, police said. Smith reportedly told police he was walking on Morningview Drive with Xavier Talmon Bush, 18 of Redfern Circle when Bush opened the victim’s car door.
Bush eventually admitted to the offense, according to police.
Nothing was stolen from the vehicle, but both teens were arrested and charged with entering an automobile with the intent to commit theft or a felony, police said.
