Tributes issued for deceased Clarke Central graduate

Tributes are publicly being made following the death of 22-year-old Antonio Jewell, a 2022 graduate of Clarke Central High School.

The young man known as AJ was found deceased Friday night at The View at NODA apartment complex near downtown Athens.

His death is under investigation by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Addressing the Gladiator Nation, Clarke Central Athletics on its Facebook page said, “AJ was a proud Gladiator who represented Clarke Central with heart and dedication as a student-athlete. His spirit, kindness, and energy will be remembered by all who knew him.“

The school expressed heartfelt condolences to his mother, Latoya Jewell, “and the entire Jewell family during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this loss. Once a Gladiator, always a Gladiator.”

“May the Jewell and Brown family find comfort in the love that surrounds them, thoughts and prayers,” said Martha Long.

“My heart is truly broken, Lord please wrap your loving arms around Toya & family in this time of grief & sadness,” Tracy M. Ealey said.
