A 36-year-old man was critically injured in the first of a pair of what police said were unrelated shootings in Athens on Sunday.

Police said they received a report at about 5:32 p.m. about the man being shot in the 120 block of Viking Court, which is in a neighborhood located next to Cedar Shoals High School.

Responding officers rendered lifesaving measures until fire and EMS personnel arrived and the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Just under five hours later, at about 10:20 p.m., police said they responded to another shooting, this time on Zebulon Drive in the Nellie B Homes housing complex.

Witnesses reportedly told police that an 18-year-old male had been shot and was driven to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Police did not release further details about this incident, nor did they have information Monday afternoon concerning the extent of the victim's injuries.

Police asked for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Detective Harrison at 762-400-7361 or david.harrison@accgov.com
