An University of Georgia e3mployee has been arrested for allegedly molesting a child at his home in Athens over a year ago.

The arrest of 25-year-old Obadiah James Lindsey resulted from an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

According to a GBI case face sheet, the case was opened on Feb. 22 of this year by the agency’s Region 3 field office in the southwest Georgia city of Americus, which subsequently requested assistance from the Region 11 office in Athens.

The Americus office notified agents in Athens that information had been discovered during a separate investigation that indicated that Lindsey had been having sexual contact with a juvenile in Athens-Clarke County.

The document states the alleged incident occurred on Dec. 1, 2019 at Lindsey’s home at 355 Riverbend Parkway, the address for Riverbend Club, which is advertised as a private student housing complex. Riverbend Club is also Lindsey's address, according to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.

According to the GBI, agents learned that Lindsey was employed by UGA's Grounds and Facilities Department as a maintenance worker. The UGA Police Department assisted with locating and arresting Lindsey without incident.

The age and gender of Lindsey’s alleged victim were redacted in the GBI case face sheet.

Jesse Maddox, special agent in charge of GBI’s Athens office, said he could not release any additional information about the still-open investigation.

Lindsey was booked into the county jail Monday afternoon on two felony counts of child molestation, and bail had yet to be set for his release as of Tuesday afternoon.
