Off-campus student housing complex damaged by fire

An off-campus student housing complex was damaged by fire over the weekend.

The blaze at Enclave 425 apartments on Riverbend Parkway occurred at around 1 a.m. Sunday and it affected total of seven units that suffered damage from fire, smoke and water.

All residents made it out safely.

The fire was determined to have been accidental, according to Capt. Kevin Kearney, an assistant fire marshal for Athens-Clarke County.

“The ACCFD Fire Marshal’s Office concluded their Cause and Origin Investigation and found the fire was accidental in nature.,” Kearney said in an email Wednesday morning. “The fire started on an apartment patio from outdoor cooking equipment.”
