UGA student seriously injured when struck by bus on campus police

A University of Georgia student was seriously injured Wednesday evening when struck on campus by a UGA transit bus.

The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. while the student was attempting to cross Sanford Drive near the Tate Center, a university spokesman said, and the student

 was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

"A staff member from UGA Student Affairs is with her to provide support until her family can be reached," GregTrevor said in a statement Wednesday night.

The incident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
