A pair of University of Georgia students were recently arrested after one of them dropped a beer bottle while crossing the street.

A police officer reported that on the night of March 27 she was on bicycle patrol in downtown Athens when she saw Lauren Bohrer and Matthew Haas enter the pedestrian crosswalk at College Avenue and Clayton Street.

When Bohrer dropped a beer bottle that had been hidden under her shirt and in her armpit she quickly picked it up and ran across the street and down the sidewalk.

The officer said that she yelled at the student to stop, but Bohrer kept running, throwing the bottle into a trash can.

When Borher did stop, the officer found her to be in possession of fake New Hampshire identification.

She was subsequently arrested for underage possession of alcohol, possession of an open container of alcohol, and also cited for violating the local prohibition of glass containers in public.

While that was occurring, police said, Haas continually interfered with Bohrer’s arrest, and when she was led to the prisoner transport van, Haas ran across the street and tried to get in the way.

Haas was arrested for obstruction of law enforcement, pedestrian in the roadway, and pedestrian failing to obey a traffic control device.
