Woman assaulted while walking to car in downtown Athens

Police responded to the hospital early the morning of September 6th after receiving information that a woman was being treated for severe injuries she suffered in downtown Athens.

The 25-year-old Commerce Road resident told officers that she was walking to a parking deck where her car was when a woman grabbed her hair from behind and repeatedly punched her in the face.

The officers observed a deep gash across the victim’s entire forehead and cuts on both her knees.

The incident had been witnessed by the victim’s boyfriend who was waiting for her at the parking deck, and he identified the attacker as his former girlfriend, Alexandria Ann Du Pree of Madison County.

Based on statements by the victim and multiple witnesses, police indicated that an arrest warrant would be signed charging Du Pree with aggravated battery,

The woman had yet to be arrested as of this morning,
