Woman charged with vehicular homicide after striking pedestrians in Athen crosswalk

An Oconee County woman has been charged with vehicular homicide after she struck two pedestrians with her car as they crossed the street in east Athens Friday night.
Lois Dua, 53, of Bogart was charged with second-degree homicide by vehicle and one count of failure to yield right of way in a crosswalk.
The incident occurred at about 8:40 p.m. when two people crossing Gaines School Road were struck by Dylua’s vehicle as they crossed between the street between the Citgo station and McDonald’s.
One of the pedestrians was killed and the other was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of the victims and other details concerning the incident have yet to be released by the police.
Those flashing yellow lights are typicallly too high, far above the normal driver scan. Sure, traffic lights are also high, but at major intersections where one is looking for them. Otherwise, however, they need to be BELOW the crosswalk sign, at the same level as the pedestrians who are about to rely upon them, and surely no higher than speed-limit signs.

Although she was homeless, if you didn't know her, you wouldn't have known it, Any always kept her appearance up, I always seen her whenever I would stop for gas, as well as giving her $3.00 to $5.00 bucks occasionally, it wasn't much but my heart was in the right place, actually I seen her last Wednesday and Friday afternoon, I've gotten so used of seeing her for about 6 yrs, that she's going to be sadly missed and my heart goes out to her family, such a tragic and lost of a loving person
The flashing yellow crosswalk lights are more dangerous than crossing without one.
They need to be turned into stop lights, or a tragedy like this will happen again.
Earlier that same day I pressed the same cross signal with my son, 7 cars blew through the flashing yellow lights before someone finally realized and recognized the crossing light was blinking.
If we would have stepped out, thinking the cars would stop, like they should, we also would have been killed.
The moment these lights were installed I knew they would be a problem.
Please, somebody, have these badly designed crossing lights changed to official stop lights. Please.
