A purported Athens gang member was arrested last week in connection with an armed robbery in which he allegedly a stole a gun from a man.

Jabari Uhuru Burnette, 18, of Partridge Lane was arrested on warrants late Thursday night for the Feb. 24 incident at Bethel Midtown Village.

According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, a 23-year-old man from Old Hull Road reported he was at the apartment complex with a male he knew as “Niño" at about 5:30 a.m. when Niño robbed him of a Glock 27 semiautomatic pistol.

Police said that Niño was an alias known to be used by Burnette.

Warrants were subsequently issued that charged Burnette with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violating the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

The police report did not indicate which gang Burnette was allegedly affiliated with.

He was arrested and booked into the Clarke County Jail Thursday and was being held without bail.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office placed a hold on Burnette’s release due to a felony probation violation in its jurisdiction.
