An 18-year-old suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with a shooting a month ago at Rolling Ridge Apartments in which a woman was killed and a teen seriously injured, Athens-Clarke County police said.
Daviae Massir Oliver was taken into custody at a home on Pinehurst Court residence where police believe he was most recently staying.
He was booked into the county jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault. No bail has been set.
The Oct. 28 double shooting capped a week in which police responded to a remarkable seven shootings in three days, six of which occurred in a 10-hour span.
All but one of the incidents involved drive-by shootings of homes in various locations in the county and were most likely gang related and tied to one another, according to police. No injuries were reported.
"Preliminary information, including the locations and times and other factors lead us to believe these incidents possibly were likely gang-related” drive-by shootings, said Lt. Shaun Barnett, public information officer for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
In the Rolling Ridge incident, 20-year-old Ndya Hill of Hoyt Street was killed, and a 17-year-old male, whose name has not been released by police, was seriously injured.
Police said that both victims were shot multiple times, and that Oliver and Hill knew each other, but detectives we're still trying to determine a motive for the bloodshed.
Police asked for anyone with Information about the Rolling Ridge incident or any of the other shootings to contact Sgt. Scott Black at 762-400-7058 or Scott.Black@accgov.com,or Detective Hovie Lister at 762-400-7333 or Hovie.Lister@accgov.com.
