Athens man indicted for DUI wreck that paralyzed woman

An Athens man recently was indicted for a DUI car wreck that seriously injured a woman three years ago.

Jabbari Antione Stevens, 30 of Vaughn Road was charged with causing serious injury by vehicle, DUI, and failure to maintain lane, according to the indictment that was filed Jan. 30 in Clarke County Superior Court.

The indictment alleges that Stevens was driving a vehicle on Lexington Road the night of Feb. 11, 2018 when the vehicle crashed.

Gabriela Heredia’s spinal cord was injured, leaving her paralyzed at the waist, the indictment notes.

Stevens was arrested soon after the incident and later released from custody on a $11,000 bond.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment March 8.
