Athens man killed in apparent dispute over a car

By Joe Johnson

An Athens man may have been fatally shot last week in Madison County during a dispute over a car.

“That’s what we believe it is going to be, but we are still looking at several different angles in this case and there’s more witnesses we’d like to speak to but they are avoiding us,” Madison County Sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Patton.

Samuel Jordan, 52, who was from Athens, was killed May 26 at a house in Hull where he’d recently been staying, officials said.

According to Patton, Jordan was shot multiple times in the yard of the home on Woodale Street during an argument with brothers Darrious DaJohn Showers, 20, and Dykell Dentavious Showers, 18, both of Athens.

The argument apparently was over Jordan’s use of a car belonging to his girlfriend, who is the Showers brothers’ aunt, Patton said.

Another relative of Jordan’s girlfriend lived at the home where the shooting occurred, Patton said. The girlfriend’s car was parked at the residence at the time.

Patton said it remained unclear whether Jordan was shot by one of the brothers or both.

The Showers brothers were arrested by five days after the incident at their mother’s home on Garnett Ridge Drive.

Both were charged with murder.

Patton asked that anyone with information about this case call the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 795-2602 and ask to speak with him or Investigator Doug Martin.
