Police on Thursday arrested an Athens man after he allegedly shot his friend when arguing with him about food.
Athens-Clarke County police said they learned about the shooting at about 3:30 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Lakeside Drive. Responding officers located a victim with a single shot to the leg at a bus stop at this location.
Upon arrival, officers used life saving measures and applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg. The victim was then transported to the local hospita, where police said he is expected to recover.
An investigation determined that the shooting culminated an argument that the victim had in the home of his friend, 25-year-old Douglas Anthony Barnett, at The Park at Athens apartment complex at 1000Lakeside Drive.
"The argument was over him eating food that did not belong to him," ACCPD Lt. Jody Thompson said. "After the food was delivered, the (victim) ate the food and (Barnett) got angry."
Thompson said he didn't know what the food was, but it had been in a delivery from the Raising Cane's chicken fingers restaurant.
Barnett was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, and he was released from custody Friday afternoon upon posting a $2,500 bond.
The prison that I imagine. You know the one, the one big enough to hold all the criminals that don't deserve to walk the same streets as my children and my self. Anyway, that prison will now need to be as large as one of our most western states. Let's turn North Dakota into a prison. Sorry guys. Get these bastards away from me and my town.
Raising Caine's, it's worth catching a bullit.
