Athens man was shot during parking space dispute

Arthur Kilpatrick reportedly shot Tishauwn Mahaffey Sunday night during a dispute over a parking space in front of his home in the Nellie B community of east Athens.
According to police, the incident began when Kilpatrick’s wife returned from the store to find parked in front of her apartment a car occupied by Mahaffey’s mother.
An argument over the space ensued, and Kilpatrick came out of the apartment the apartment with a gun.
“The three began getting loud and yelling at one another when Mahaffey approached yelling that’s my
momma and punching Kilpatrick in the face. In response, Kilpatrick shot Mahaffey,” according to the police report.
Officers arrived at the scene to find Mahaffey being held by his sister in a large pool of blood and they immediately rendered aid to the 36-year-old victim, who was subsequently transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Police arrested Kilpatrick for aggravated assault and took him to the county jail, where he is being held without bail.
