Athens native Vic Pope named county transit director

Victor 'Vic' Pope has been named the new Transit Department Director for the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) by Manager Blaine Williams. Pope, who has worked in the department for 17 years, has been the Interim Director since September 22, 2023. His appointment is effective immediately. Williams commended Pope's experience and dedication to transit services.

Pope is an Athens native and Kennesaw State University graduate who joined the Transit Department in 2007. His roles have included bus driver, Route Supervisor, Transit Planner, Assistant Transit Director, and Interim Transit Director. He also holds a Class B Commercial Vehicle Operator license.

In his new position, Pope expressed appreciation for the chance to lead the Transit Department and its committed team. He highlighted the department's aim to offer safe, punctual, and who efficient public transportation for the Athens-Clarke County community.

Under Pope's guidance, the ACCGov Transit Department will maintain its fixed-route services for approximately 750,000 annual passengers and its curb-to-curb paratransit services. These services operate from the Multimodal Transportation Center in downtown Athens.
