An Athens woman was arrested this week for intentionally striking another woman with her car at an eastside apartment complex, Athens-Clarke County police said.
According to a police incident report, the 28-year-old victim had been involved in an “ongoing issue” with the suspect, identified as Deamber Deasia Brightwell, 23, of Deer Creek Drive.
The report indicates that officers responded Tuesday afternoon to Athens Gardens apartments on a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car that left the scene. The car, being driven by Brightwell, was stopped by one of the responding officers on Bailey Street.
Another officer who responded to Athens Gardens found the victim lying in the back seat of her car in front of her apartment on Coleridge Court within the complex, the police report noted.
According to the report, security camera footage showed the victim sitting in her car for an extended period of time before Brightwell arrived at the complex in her car.
According to the report, the victim is then seen in the video twice accelerating her car towards Brightwell’s before getting out of the vehicle and walking towards Brightwell’s car.
After the two women exchanged words, Brightwell reportedly drove past the victim, then circled around and struck the other woman, propelling her into the side of her own car, which rocked upon being impacted by the victim.
The victim was transported to the hospital by National EMS, and Brightwell was arrested for aggravated assault, the report noted.
A Magistrate Court judge denied Brightwell bond at a Wednesday afternoon hearing, and the alleged offender remained incarcerated at the county jail as of Thursday.
