Athens woman killed after falling from moving car, struck by second vehicle

By Joe Johnson

An Athens woman was killed Tuesday morning after she fell out of a moving car on the Athens Perimeter and was struck by another vehicle.

Athens-Clarke County police said investigators were attempting to determine if 32-year-old Angelica Johnson accidentally fell out of the car, was forced out, or something else happened.

She reportedly was a passenger in the car from which she came.

Neither that car nor the vehicle that struck the woman remained on the scene, police said.

“We are trying to determine how she ended up in the roadway,” said Lt. Shaun Barnett, public information officer for ACCPD.

The incident, reported at 11:49 a.m., occurred on the perimeter’s outer loop between Lexington Road and Olympic Drive, according to police.

Johnson was transported by National EMS to the hospital, where she died from her injuries, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and police asked for anybody with information regarding this incident to contact Detective Scott Black at scott.black@accgov.comor (762) 400-7058 or Officer First Class Dustin Tilley at dustin.tilley@accgov.comor (762) 400-7355.
