A 68-year-old Athens man reportedly was injured Thursday morning when a car collided with his bicycle on Prince Avenue.
According to Athens-Clarke County police Lt. Shaun Barnett, Carey Lee Maxey of Vincent Drive was riding a bicycle east on the sidewalk of Prince Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. when he left the sidewalk in an apparent attempt to cross the road.
Upon entering the roadway the bicycle was struck by a 2022 Hyundai Kona that was traveling east on Prince Avenue in the inside lane, Barnett said.
"The cyclist was transported to a local hospital by EMS with visible injuries," said Barnett, who is ACCPD's public information officer.
Barnett provided an accident report that indicated Maxey sustained contusions and a possible head injury.
The report noted that he wasn't wearing a helmet.
Barnett said the cyclist was cited for failure to yield when entering a roadway.
