BOE Appoints Claudia Butts to Fill District 2 Vacancy

At the Thursday, Jan. 12, meeting of the Clarke County Board of Education, board members voted to appoint Claudia Butts to fill the vacant District 2 seat, replacing Kirrena Gallagher, who resigned her seat in December 2022.

Butts will serve the remainder of the current District 2 term, which will expire Dec. 31 2024.

The Board filled the vacancy pursuant to state law after opening an application period to qualified District 2 residents. The Board received three applications and members heard presentations from each candidate at Thursday’s meeting prior to its vote.
