Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School String Orchestra to perform at Carnegie Hall

The Clarke County School District and Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School are pleased to announce that the BHL String Orchestra has been invited to perform in the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York in March 2026 as part of the prestigious WorldStrides Honors Performance Series.

Acceptance into this festival is an exceptionally competitive and selective process. Ensembles from

across the nation and around the world must submit a rigorous audition demonstrating superior musicality, technical skill, and artistry.

The BHL String Orchestra

The BHL String Orchestra's selection reflects years of dedication,

discipline, and outstanding musical achievement by its talented students and conductor. The orchestra

program is under the direction of Matthew Rubenstein.

“There's an old saying: ‘How do you get to Carnegie Hall...practice, practice, practice!’ Providing our

students with the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall is about more than just music - it's about experiential learning at the highest level,

” said Mr. Rubenstein. “This experience allows students to grow as artists, scholars, and young citizens, representing Burney-Harris-Lyons and the Athens community with pride on a world stage. At BHL, we are committed to giving our students opportunities that inspirebexcellence, build confidence, and create memories that will last a lifetime. As their director, I could not be more proud.

”Carnegie Hall, often described as the pinnacle of musical accomplishment, has hosted some of the mostblegendary artists in history. Performing in the iconic Isaac Stern Auditorium on the Ronald O. Perelman Stage during the festival will not only give BHL students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform in one of the world's most celebrated concert venues but also work closely with internationally acclaimed conductors, participate in elite rehearsals, and experience New York City's rich cultural offerings. BHL’s selection affirms the school’s and CCSD’s ongoing commitment to musical excellence and arts education.
