First annual 706 Day celebration in Bishop Park

Athens, GA – The Classic City is set to shine on Saturday, July 6th AKA 7/06 as the community comes together for the highly anticipated 706 Day Celebration at Bishop Park. This annual event, named in honor of the area code that represents Athens and surrounding communities, is more than just a party—it's a powerful celebration of local culture, unity, and community pride.

Running from 3PM to 8PM, the free, family-friendly festival promises something for everyone. Attendees can enjoy a vibrant mix of live music, food, local business pop-ups, games, and entertainment for all ages. This year's event also puts a spotlight on community involvement, with a special volunteer team helping lead the charge to keep the event smooth and safe for everyone.

“The goal of 706 Day is to celebrate the heart and soul of Athens,” said event organizer Isaiah Stephens & Alesha Smith. “We want to highlight the positive energy, talent, and spirit of this community, and create something that brings everyone together—no matter where they’re from or what part of the city they represent.”

Local artists and entertainers will be taking the stage throughout the afternoon, bringing a blind of hip-hop, R&B, gospel, and spoken word to the crowd. For the kids, the event will feature water activities, basketball, and interactive games, while adults can browse local vendors and enjoy some entertainment and food

706 Day also provides an opportunity for local nonprofits and service organizations to share their missions and offer resources to the public. “It’s about more than just having a good time,” Stephens added. “It’s about lifting the village, supporting each other, and showing what makes Athens special.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, tents, and plenty of 706 pride. Whether you're a longtime resident or just discovering what makes Athens unique, 706 Day promises to be a day to remember.
