Clarke County BOE work session and business meeting set for May 9

The Clarke County Board of Education will hold its next monthly work session and business meeting on Thursday, May 9, beginning with the work session at 5 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 7 p.m.

Board meetings are held at the Clarke County School District administrative offices building, 595 Prince Ave., in the Vernon Payne Meeting Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are also livestreamed and available for on-demand viewing on the CCSD YouTube channel. Archived meetings can be found here.

During its work session, the board will:

● receive a proposed tentative budget for fiscal year 2025 to vote on. This proposal will be based on board member comments received by the district at the April 16 called meeting for the initial budget proposal presentation. Pending approval, the board will also set the dates for the required budget and millage rate hearings prior to final approval of a budget, which is scheduled for June.

● receive reports on district projects funded by special-purpose local-option sales tax for education (E-SPLOST) dollars and other facilities updates

● discuss current and any future district policies that are recommended by staff and/or board members for review

● receive reports from community advisory and oversight boards

● review the district’s financial report for March 2024

● review and discuss items that will be up for a vote during the business meeting and determine

whether those items will be placed on the consent agenda for approval or designated for individual action.

The complete work session agenda and supporting documents for each agenda item can be found here. The business meeting agenda will be posted here once it is finalized following the work session.

During the business meeting, the board will also have its monthly recognitions of student and staff achievements around the district and will receive comments from members of the public. The public comment period is for any agenda item or any topic relevant to the business of the board.

Anyone wishing to provide public input must contact Lisa Palmer, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Board Manager, at 706-546-7721, Ext. 79201, by 4 p.m. Thursday, May 9.
