Comer man arrested for shotgun robbery at Athens vape shop

Morton McLaughlin Wiggins, 40, of Comer, was arrested on the afternoon of April 6th for an armed robbery that occurred that morning in Athens.

The incident happened at around 11:30 am at The Joint Vape Shop on Hull Road, where police said that Wiggins left without paying for a $30 canister of nitrous oxide.

When the clerk followed him into the parking lot, Wiggins pulled the shotgun from his pants and pointed it at her, according to police..

Wiggins drove off in a Lexus SUV, which was later located and stopped by Madison County sheriff’s deputies.

The laughing gas cannnister was in the vehicle and deputies found the shotgun at the home of Wiggins’ parents.

He was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Wiggins is being held without bail at the county jail in Athens,
