The deaths of two men whose bodies were found Sunday in their eastern Oglethorpe County home died as the result of an apparent murder-suicide, according to a county sheriff’s official.

Capt. Mike Tyndell on Tuesday identified the men as Jason Colvard, 51, and his son, 27-year-old Andrew Colvard-Moneymaker.

Their decomposing bodies were discovered by deputies, who at the request of Colvard’s father in Vermont performed a welfare check at the men’s home on Wesley Chapel Road, outside of Lexingfton, Tyndell said.

The man who is father and grandfather of the deceased men indicated that relatives had not heard from either man in 10 days and were concerned about their wellbeing, Tyndell said.

The sheriff’s official would not disclose how the men died or if a weapon had been located in their home.

“We are awaiting the autopsy results” before disclosing the means and manner of the deaths, Tyndell said.
