The elderly man who tried to murder an Athens dentist office employee has been released from the hospital after an apparent failed suicide attempt,

Carl Eugene Clark had been hospitalized since Monday, in the aftermath of him trying to kill 47-year-old Sheila Mobley at McRae Family Dental on Baxter Street.

Mobley remains hospitalized from injuries she suffered when the 74-year-old Clark shot her multiple times including once in the face.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the attack but they characterized it as an act of domestic violence.

Clark fled town immediately after the shooting and he shot himself during a police traffic stop in Butts County where he’d been hospitalized until Thursday afternoon.

He’s being held without bail on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery.
