Deputy knocked unconscious by escaped longhorn

From reports:

A deputy was injured Friday evening when knocked unconscious down by a loose longhorn bull running through a busy intersection in Lakeland, Florida.

According to Polk County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carrie Horstman, the incident happened just after 5:28 p.m. near the intersection of Combee Road South and Crystal Lake Drive North. That’s when deputies were called out after drivers reported a “cow, later found to be a bull, running in and out of traffic and causing a safety hazard.

The first deputy to arrive spotted the bull was

and called for backup, and it was later knocked down by the animal and rendered unconscious.

The deputy was transported to the hospital, and is expected to be okay.

Deputies were able to locate the bull’s owner and the animal was eventually secured in a nearby pasture behind a Dollar General.
