The following was released by Lexy Doherty for Congress
ATHENS, GA — Lexy Doherty, Democratic candidate for Congress in Georgia’s 10th District, released a statement following Congressman Collins’ decision to leave his seat in the House to run for the Senate:
“Mr. Collins seems to think he has a better shot of staying in D.C. by running against the Senator instead of me. Apparently, he's looking at the same numbers we are and seeing the shift away from extremism toward kitchen table values. Collins is part of the old way in Washington.
“Georgians are tired of the old way. Hardworking families like mine need prices to go down and wages to come up. We need our government to work with us—not against us—to make a better life for us and our families. And all we've gotten this year from extremists like Collins is chaos and corruption while the ultra-rich take tighter control of Washington.
“Collins represents the worst of Washington: loud and lawless without getting anything done for regular folks. Chaos doesn't pay anyone's bills. MAGA grandstanding doesn't make rent more affordable or child care any cheaper. Manufactured outrage doesn't bring manufacturing back. Regular Georgians want something done for them, not just the wealthy.
“Collins was always more carnival barker than legislator. But that opens up opportunities for his retirement next year. The Elberton 12-County Fair is always hiring. You put a barker like Collins out by the tilt-a-whirl and just watch those tickets fly.”
