What began as domestic violence in a moving vehicle Monday morning turned into a car chase involving two police agencie that ended with the suspect crashing on the other side of the county.
It all started in the Beechwood Pines apartment complex off West Broad Street, where the victim escaped from being assaulted by 33-year-old Evan Sanders Frommer as he drove his Jeep.
A witness had followed in his own vehicle until the bloodied victim jumped out of the stil-moving Jeep in the complex and the witness called 911.
After the 19-year-old victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital, police spotted the Jeep and attempted a traffic stop,
Frommer sped away and led police on a chase westbound on Atlanta Highway and then on Jennings Mill Road, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper who joined the chase performed a PIT maneuver on the Jeep that caused it to crash on Jennings Mill Parkway.
Officers pulled the suspect from the wrecked vehicle and arrested him.
Frommer was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, reckless driving, and felony fleeing and eluding police.
GSP indicated that they would also be charging him.
Meanwhile at the hospital, the victim recounted for police how she was assaulted by the man with whom she lived on South Milledge Avenue and supposedly was soon to marry.
She said that after Frommer picked her up at her job they were arguing inside the Jeep when things escalated into an assault.
She told police that he slapped and punched her all over. He also choked the woman while holding her in a headlock and slammed her head into the Jeep’s center console.
She was unsure if she lost consciousness she did think that she was going to be killed.
The witness told police that he could see the victim being assaulted as he followed the Jeep that was driving recklessly in traffic, swerving between lanes.
Frommer is being held without bail at the county jail.
