A man shot himself just before his truck crashed into a building in downtown Athens Wednesday morning.
“The driver suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound which caused his vehicle to divert from its path and strike the building,” according to Georgia State Patrol spokesperson Franka Young.
Kevin Cissner, a 46-year-old paramedic, had reportedly been outed as a pedophile shortly before crashing his Ford F-150 into the East Broad Street building.

Angelus Pereira said that his Athens-based pedophile vigilante group was preparing a sting operation on the very day that Cissner crashed into the building that housed Magnolias Bar and was once the site of the renowned Tasty World music venue.
Cissner, who died in the crash, had been texting with a member of the Street Sweeperz Unit who was posing as a teenage boy.
“Twenty minutes prior to the sting commencing we were notified of what had taken place,” Pereira said.
On Wednesday morning Athens police officers responded to a report of Cissner being suicidal, but he drove away from them and crashed into the building.
At the time of his death Cissner was employed by Greene County EMS. He had previously worked for Walton County EMS and an ambulance service affiliated with Athen-area nursing homes.
He reportedly had stolen fentanyl and ketamine from a Greene County ambulance prior to the incident.
The owners have posted on social media about plans to rebuild the heavily damaged building .
