East Side Library Site Has Been Selected by ACC Commission
ATHENS, Ga. — The Athens-Clarke County (ACC) Commission has chosen a site for the East Side Public Library. On September third, the commissioners voted to approve 1030 Barnett Shoals, a currently undeveloped parcel of land owned by ACCGov.
The East Side Library is projected to be complete by the end of 2026, according to ACCGov. It will be a part of the Athens Regional Library System (ARLS), and bring resources such as all-ages programming, meeting spaces for community groups, access to computers, a business incubator, a creative space with new technology, reading space, and of course books.
“We are very excited to move forward with the East Side Library. This will provide East Athens residents with closer access to books and resources as well as a free and public gathering space,” said ARLS Executive Director, Valerie Bell. “Libraries are essential. You can find knowledge, technology, art, and community in a library. With our mission of Engaging Communities and Exceeding Expectations, we believe that the residents of the East Side will be very pleased with the new building and services available to them.”
The Athens Regional Library System consists of 11 branch locations, located within 5 counties in Northeast Georgia. For more information about the Athens Regional Library System, visit athenslibrary.org or call 706-613-3650.
