An overturned tractor trailer and resultant fuel spill kept emergency crews busy for several hours Wednesday morning.
The police department alerted the public about the incident at 5:46 am and issued a second alert at 10:10 am announcing that the scene had been cleared.
The Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Department posted the following concerning the incident on its Facebook page:

Multiple C shift crews were on scene early this morning at the inner loop exit ramp at Oconee Street for an overturned tractor trailer. Crews provided patient care to the operator, fuel spill containment, and maintained a safe work zone for the wrecker to remove the vehicle from the roadway.

Great coordinated work by all crews on scene. Stay safe out there, Athens. As the nights start to get longer, remember to be extra vigilant when driving after dark.
