‘Enthralled’ driver cited after not yielding to motorcycle cop

A 24-year-old Bogart woman was recently cited for several traffic violations after she didn’t make way for a police motorcycle on West Broad Street,

The incident happened the afternoon of August 25th when the motorcycle with emergency lights activated ran up behind Engi Alabady’s car but the woman wouldn’t move out the way.

“The SUV’s speed never decreased or showed any indications of yielding, even as I chirped my siren,” he reported.

The officer followed the SUV until it turned onto a side street and stopped abruptly.

 “I knocked on the driver’s door and was met with a look of confusion,” he said in his report,

When the officer opened the door and told Alabady to step out she complied while removing AirPods from her ears

He decided to cite the woman for several violations, including failure to yield to an emergency vehicle because she had been “too enthralled by her phone” to realize the police motorcycle was behind her, and didn’t hear the siren “due to her listening to Blank Space by Taylor Swift.”

The other violations were for distracted driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, wearing a device that impaired hearing, and not exercising due care while driving,

The summonses require Alabady to appear in court.
