Drunken Florida woman arrested for fighting in downtown Athens

By Joe Johnson

Andrea Renee Russo, 37, of Pensacola, Fla, was arrested for fighting in downtown Athens

early in the morning of February 15th.

Officer Clay Cochran reported that he was patrolling the area at around 2:30 am when he noticed a commotion inside the courthouse parking garage on East Washington Street, where a group of people were trying to separate Russo and the other combatant.

While trying to sort out the situation, the officer learned that Russo had instigated the fight, during which she had bitten a 21-year-old man who had an “extremely visible wound”on his arm.

Cochran made in his report a compelling case that the woman had been drunk.

“Russo was slurring her words, unsteady on her feet, had bloodshot eyes, and had an extreme odor of alcohol emitting from her person,” the officer wrote,

“All of these factors…led me to believe that she was under the influence of alcohol past the point of making reasonable decisions.”

He arrested Russo for battery and public intoxication and transported her to the county jail.

She was released several hours later after posting minimal cash bail.
