Gunmen rob teen of phone and chips near downtown Athens

A cellphone and a $2 bag of chip reportedly were stolen from a 16-year-old boy as he walked on a sidewalk near downtown, Athens-Clarke County police said.

The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. .Friday near 755 Broad apartments on East Broad Street, according to police.

The report did not contain a narrative of what allegedly happened.

The report listed three stolen items: an iPhone 6 valued at $150, headphones valued at $20, and a bag of chips valued at $2.

The report listed three suspects, two of whom were booked into the Clarke County

Jail early Saturday morning, according to the jail’s website.

Fredrick Heard, 17, of Bonnie Lane was booked on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Brynarius Kentrell Smith, 17, of Rocksprings Court was booked on two counts of obstruction, according to the jail’s website.

The name of the third suspect, who was 16, was redacted from the police report.
