An Athens teen was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly shot another teen in an east Athens neighborhood, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Officers responded at 8:07 p.m. to investigate a report of someone being shot in a cul-de-sac in the 100 Block of Highland Park Drive, police said.

The victim, a 19-year-old male from Lexington in Oglethorpe County, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg, according to police.

The victim and witnesses identified the shooter as 17-year-old Michael Craig Wolfe, who was located at his home nearby on Crows Nest Court, police said.

A University of Georgia police K-9 unit located a gun that had been hidden behind the suspect’s residence, according to police. The gun had previously been reported as stolen in Athens-Clarke County, police said.

Wolfe was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a handgun by a person under 18 years old and theft by receiving stolen property.

He was being held Wednesday morning at the Clarke County Jail without bail being set for the assault and firearm charges.

According to Athens-Clarke County police Public Information Officer Geof Gilland, Wolfe and the victim were acquainted with each other.

Detectives on Wednesday were investigating the incident to determine a motive for the shooting, Gilland said.
