Gunmen wearing surgical masks rob store in west Athens


O'Reilly Auto Parts on Hawthorne Avenue

A pair of gunmen wearing surgical masks robbed a westside business Wednesday night, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

At about 9:15p.m., the robbers entered O’Reilly Auto Parts at 230 Hawthorne Ave. And at gunpoint ordered two employees to get down on the floor, according to a police incident report.

The suspects then moved the employees to the back of the store and stole an undisclosed anount of money from a safe and cash register before fleeing in a small gray car, according to the report,

In a Thursday afternoon media release police described the robbers as black males who wore blue surgical-type masks, one of whom wore black or dark clothing and a hoodie with the hood up.

Police requested that anyone with knowledge of this crime or the involved suspects to contact Detective Scott Black at (762) 400-7058, or scott.black@accgov.com.

A Crime Stoppers reward is being offered to anyone providing information that leads to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
