The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that killed a Madison County man Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Danielsville and Ila roads.
Officers responded to the location at 4:30 p.m. on a report of a car colliding with a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, officers found that the motorcycle's driver, identified as John Andrew Morton, 48, of Hull was dead at the scene, according to police.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Mr. Morton was driving north on Danielsville Road nearing the intersection of Ila Road when his motorcycle collided with the southbound car that was turning onto Ila Road, according to police.
The investigation was ongoing, and police asked that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information related to the incident contact Lieutenant Jon McIlvaine at 762-400-7089.
The fatal crash was the eighth in Athens-Clarke County this year, police noted.
