A Clarke County grand jury this week indicted a man for allegedly shooting another man.
According to the indictment that was filed Tuesday in Superior Court, Andrew Lamar Lumpkin on Jan. 9 fired a gun in the direction of Fernando Patterson, striking the victim once in the stomach.
The 66-year-old defendant was charged with one count of aggravated assault.
Patterson, 40, was also homeless, police said.
The shooting occurred at a homeless camp in the 200 block of North Avenue, according to Athens-Clarke County police, who arrested Lumpkin at the scene.
Lumpkin did not leave the scene of the shooting and was taken into custody on a charge of aggravated assault, police said.
He has been held ever since at the county jail without bail being set.
Patterson was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
