A pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a car in Statham early Thursday morning, according to a Georgia State Patrol official.

Michael Shane Sharp, 46, of Clinton, S.C. was in the roadway of Atlanta Highway near 8th Street at about 5:45 a.m. when he was struck by a car being driven west on Atlanta Highway by 66-year-old Nancy Dalton Luke of Bogart, said Sgt. First Class Tim Meyer, commanding officer of GSP’s Post 32 in Athens.

Sharp was transported with life-threatening injuries to Athens Piedmont Regional Medical Center, Myer said.

He remained in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.

According to Myer, Luke was interviewed at the scene and released without charges.

She sustained minor injuries from glass to her hands and arms, the trooper said.
