The Georgia Bureau of investigation Friday afternoon identified the man and woman whose bodies were found overnight in the Walton County community of Social Circle.
According to the GBI, James Robert Evans, 27, and Jaymine Whitlock, 32 had been fatally shot prior to their bodies being found early Friday morning on the side of Thurman Baccus Road.
The GBI did not indicate where the victims had lived.
The apparent double-homicide occurred less than two weeks after former Athens-Clarke County police Capt. Will "Willie" Brinkley became Social Circle's new police chief on May 4.
Brinkley did not return a request for comment.
