A Walton County man was shot and killed by his brother Friday afternoon, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 4:35 p.m. on a report of a person being shot at an address off Jack Glass Road in Monroe, the GBI said in a release issued Saturday.
“When deputies arrived, immediate assistance was provided to the gunshot victim, identified as Henry Thomas McDougal, 27, of Monroe,” the media release stated. “He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
His brother, 31-year-old James Lewis McDougal, also of Monroe, surrendered to deputies a short time later, according to the GBI.
“He was taken into custody and is being charged with murder,” the GBI said.
The sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook page that the fatal shooting occurred during a “domestic situation” in the unincorporated community of Gratis, located between Monroe and Winder,
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI Athens Office to assist with the investigation.
Henry McDougal's body was to be transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy.
