An Athens woman was shot and seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in an eastside neighborhood, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The incident occurred at about 3:23 pm. on Berlin Street, where police said officers responded to an unknown problem.
Upon arrival, officers found evidence that a shooting had taken place, but did not locate anyone who had been shot.
Whitley Smith, 28 of Athens, subsequently arrived at a local hospital with a serious, but non-life- threatening, gunshot wound, and detectives were able to link the injury to the incident on Berlin Street, according to police.

Mahaffey was previously identified by police as being a member of the NBA (Never Broke Again) street gang.
