An Athens man recently told police about receiving a threatening phone message that made him fear for his safety.

The 55-year-old Woodcrest Drive resident reported that Marvin McCants had left the message out of anger that his wife had gone to the man’s home in order to get away from him,

“McCants has a history of domestic issues with his wife and the wife occasionally comes to (the man’s) residence to get away from McCants when situations escalate,” according to a police report.

On the morning of May 31st the man reported to police that he received a phone message from McCant that was laced with profanity and threats.

A transcript of the message reads as follows:

“You stay the fuck away from my wife, motherfucker. I warned you once before and I’m telling you again, motherfucker, you are not Captain Save-A-Ho. You stay away from my motherfucking wife. You are going to have a problem, you motherfucker. You know I can’t stand motherfuckers like you. I’ve killed men that look like you overseas when I was in the service. I will fuck you up, I’m going to fuck you up if I see your name in my wife’s phone again, I’m going to fuck you up, You understand me, you motherfucker, you,”

McCants was arrested later that day on a charge of making terroristic threats, and was released the following day after a $6,000 property bond was posted at the county jail.
