Athens Clarke County police on Saturday were investigating a fatal shooting in a westside neighborhood.
According to Lt. Shaun Barnett, at about 1:07 p.m., ACCPD received several 911 calls from people who heard multiple gunshots in the neighborhood.
Officers were able to determine the incident location was a residence in the 100 block of Nicole Circle, in a neighborhood off Tallassee Road, said Barnett, ACCPD’s public information officer.
A male at the residence had been shot, and he died after being transported to the hospital, according to Barnett.
The officer said that police know who the suspected shooter is and that they do not pose a threat to public safety.
“A decision regarding charges will be made as a result of the findings of the investigation,” he said.
The investigation was in its early stages, and Barnett said more information, including the identities of the victim and shooter, will be released when the information becomes available.
Classic City News will update this story when the additional information is released.

Wonder if it's self defense, wait, that doesn't matter to the media. Anxiously awaiting reason the shooter posed no danger. I think the victim would disagree. One block from a middle school...welcome to Athens!
