Probation for Athens man who shot at wife from car

Dexter Lenoris Maxey, 60, of Vineyard Drive has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to shooting at his wife three years ago.

According to court records, the sentence resulted from a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office,

Maxey had been arrested in February 2023 after he discharged a gun from within the car at Peter and Vine streets towards Veronica Maxey, his wife of 19 years, according to the arrest warrants.

He was initially charged with felony aggravated assault and related charges, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court documents, Maxey on January 16th entered into a negotiated agreement with prosecutors in which he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and disorderly conduct.

In accordance with the agreement, a judge sentenced Maxey to four years on probation.
