The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department announced that the Memorial Park dog park will open Tuesday, July 9 after undergoing a complete renovation.
It will be open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset, but will be temporarily closed on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays until noon for turf maintenance.
The recent renovation was necessary as a century old sewer line that ran underneath the dog park required replacement.
Newly installed amenities include shade structures and benches, new water fountains for dogs and patrons, and new fencing with entryways/exits at opposite ends of the park.
New concrete pathways have improved accessibility for those with mobility issues. Grass sod was installed and will require some additional maintenance through the summer months.

Will there be a separate area for small dogs?
