UGA student accidentally shoots self on campus




By Joe Johnson A University of Georgia student Tuesday afternoon accidentally shot himself on campus.

At about 1:55 p.m. “UGA Police Officers responded to a call for assistance for a student who had reportedly suffered an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg in a room in the Chemistry Building Annex located at 140 Cedar Street,UGA Public Relations Manager Rebecca Fuller Beeler said in a response to a Classic City News inquiry concerning social media posts about the shooting.

“Overheard in Chemistry: a SUPER loud bang, then a guy screaming and people sprinting for help. Some dude shot himself in the leg by accident...,”someone posted on the Overheard at UGA Facebook page.

“(A) guy accidentally shot himself in the leg right before my exam, another student posted.

”The student was conscious and alert when officers arrived and was transported to the hospital a short time later by responding emergency medical personnel for treatment,” Beeler said.

”There are no factors that indicate any threat to the community related to this incident,” she said.
