Students invited to apply for Athens Mayor’s Youth Council

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) is seeking applications by Sunday, August 16 from 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who are interested in taking part in the Mayor's Youth Council. Eligible students can attend public or private schools or be homeschooled, but must be Athens-Clarke County residents.
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) is seeking applications by Sunday, August 16 from 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who are interested in taking part in the Mayor's Youth Council. Eligible students can attend public or private schools or be homeschooled, but must be Athens-Clarke County residents.

Council members attend meetings twice per month and participate in periodic service activities, adding up to a time commitment of around six hours/month from September through December. Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 6:30 PM. 2026 meeting dates will include:

  • September 9 (parent attendance recommended)

  • September 23

  • October 7

  • October 21

  • November 4

  • November 18

  • December 2

  • December 16

The Mayor's Youth Council is designed to encourage effective youth engagement in Athens-Clarke County and provide an opportunity for youth to learn more about the workings of ACCGov while interacting directly with staff. The program is not affiliated with the Clarke County School District or student government.

Applications should be submitted online at www.accgov.com/youthcouncil. Selected applicants will be interviewed in late August, with the first meeting happening in early September.
